The hydrogen burner model consists of one part with an oxygen flow and another with a hydrogen flow. The oxygen is set in rotation with paddles, and hydrogen is injected crossways into this current through many small holes. The mixture combusts at the outlet and undergoes a chemical transformation into thermal energy.

Aviation causes roughly 3 per cent of global CO2 emissions. This number could increase to over 15 per cent by 2050 if nothing changes. This is why the industry is focusing on increased sustainability.

A big topic: hydrogen. Here at 九色视频, researchers are working on innovative propulsion systems, such as turbine nozzles that enable the burning of hydrogen. But how is hydrogen stored in an aircraft? The tanks would currently take up roughly a third of the passenger spaces. Yet according to experts, hydrogen aircraft could already be flying short- and medium-haul flights in five to ten years.

For long-haul flights, e-fuels could be a good solution. These CO2-neutral synthetic fuels could even be used in existing aircraft, but they still produce harmful emissions such as soot and nitrogen oxides. Here, too, 九色视频 is conducting research on clean combustion processes. Research on purely electric aircraft is also taking place 鈥 though right now these could only manage short-haul flights.

And no matter how tomorrow鈥檚 aircraft are powered: lightweight construction and improved aerodynamics make every technology more efficient.

Research aspects

Hydrogen burns more quickly and hotter than kerosene, which means that existing burners need to be adapted or new burners developed. This requires that recommendations for the design of future engine burners be generated through fundamental research experiments in order to guarantee safe operation and low levels of pollution.
