Metals Technology is offered as a vocational subject within the bachelor''s programme Technical Education. In addition, a second teaching subject must be studied. Please note the subject combination options.
The Bachelor’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education, together with the consecutive Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education, qualifies graduates to enter the preparatory phase of teacher training for the State Examination. The Bachelor’s degree qualifies graduates to take up work in areas such as vocational education and training, with associations, and chambers of industry or chambers of crafts and trades. In order to teach at vocational schools, graduates must additionally complete the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education and the State Examination.
Teachers of technical education teach at various types of school, including vocational school, pre-vocational school, specialist vocational school, technical college, technical grammar school and technical school. In these types of school, teaching staff teach subjects and learning areas related to metals technology.
The Metals Technology part of the course is worth 92 ECTS credit points (CP). It includes modules in Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Thermodynamics, Product Development, Industrial Science and Production Technology. The Electrical Engineering, Thermodynamics and Materials Science modules involve laboratory work; provision is made for a product design project in the module. In addition to technical modules, the part of the course also includes a basic module on the structures of the vocational subject area of Metals Technology.
The Bachelor’s degree programme concludes with a Bachelor’s thesis (15 CP), which students may prepare at any of the institutes within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
