Short Description
In the Master鈥檚 degree programme, students continue to explore the vocational subject area and teaching subject pursued at the Bachelor鈥檚 stage.
Graduates of the Master鈥檚 Teacher Training Course for Technical Education can apply for the preparatory phase of teacher training (teacher training period) for technical education.
At Leibniz Universit盲t Hannover, students can choose from six vocational subject areas and eleven teaching subjects.
The vocational subject areas are: Electrical Engineering; Metals Technology; Site Engineering; Colour Technology and Interior Decoration; Plant Operations and Manufacturing of Wood Products; and Food Science.
The teaching subjects offered are: Chemistry, Computer Science, German, English, Protestant Religious Education, Catholic Religious Education, Mathematics, Physics, Politics, Social Education & Community Work / Special Needs Education in Vocational Education, Spanish and Physical Education.
Course Content
- Since the emphasis is on qualifying students with regard to teacher training, students on the Master鈥檚 programme focus to a greater extent on Vocational and Business Education and teaching methodology than in the Bachelor鈥檚 Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. In the Master鈥檚 Teacher Training Course for Technical Education, students complete four weeks of practical training in the vocational subject area and two weeks in the teaching subject.
The degree programme is divided into the chosen vocational subject area, worth 42 credit points, the teaching subject, worth 28 credit points, and Vocational and Business Education, worth 30 credit points. The degree programme concludes with a written (Master鈥檚) thesis worth 20 credit points.
In accordance with Annex 5 of the Ordinance on Master鈥檚 Degrees for Teacher Training in Lower Saxony (Nds. MasterVO-Lehr), students without a relevant vocational qualification must instead complete 52 weeks of practical training before registering their Master鈥檚 thesis.
Students who choose English and Spanish as their teaching subjects must spend a three-month study-relevant period abroad.
Subject-specific knowledge of Latin must be proven for the teaching subject of Catholic Religious Education.
In order to enter the teacher profession, students should have an interest in studying the vocational subject area and the teaching subject, and should enjoy interacting with people; they should also have good communication and organisational skills, and the ability to self-reflect and engage in structured thinking.
Completion of the Master鈥檚 Teacher Training Course for Technical Education is the prerequisite for applying for the preparatory phase of teacher training for technical education. Applicants should be interested in teaching at vocational schools since this degree programme is tailored towards this career goal.
