With a total area of 640 hectares, the Eilenriede is one of europes largest urban forests and, with its winding paths and small clearings, invites you to take a walk at any time of year. At this event, we want to explore the forest together.

Please note: A basic level of fitness is required for this event. The hike is not barrier-free.

Normally you go to a caf茅 and drink from a porcelain cup... not so at the Porcelain Caf茅. Here you can paint your own porcelain pieces. The caf茅 provides white porcelain pieces, paints and painting utensils and there are no limits to our creativity. One week later you can pick up your work of arts (after payment).

Through our regular day trips, we want to give you the opportunity to get to know cities together in a group that can be reached within a day from Hanover.

This excursion will take us to Gottingen, a university city in southern Lower Saxony. Accordingly, we will start with a city tour on the history of science and then visit the large city park. This excursion will last the whole day. Places are limited.

In the summer, the largest lake in Lower Saxony is a popular destination for all kinds of outdoor activities. On the 鈥淪teinhuder Meer鈥� there is the Island 鈥淲ilhelmsstein鈥� to discover with an old fortress nearly 350 years of age!

The International Office offers a German course level A1.1 in cooperation with the Bildungsverein. This course comprises 30 teaching units. This course is designed for International doctoral candidates, researchers and postdocs. 

Participation fee: 150鈧� per person + work materials for class

There are places left in an intensive language German language class on B2 level, running from September 3^rd to 30^th, 2025, each day from Mondays to Fridays, in the morning, price 450 euros.

It can be a great challenge to spend a lot of time in a large educational institution in a foreign country. There are new academic requirements, unwritten rules and it is not uncommon to be overwhelmed. In this short workshop, you will get to know some German peculiarities better and can link them to your own experiences as researchers at LUH. Through visualization, interactive methods and discussions, you will have the opportunity to better understand your environment and make your future in Germany easier. This workshop is suitable for newcomers as well as for PhD students & PostDocs who have been in Germany for some time and want to broaden their understanding of Germany as an academic landscape.

The workshop will be led by a intercultural trainer who herself has had a lot of experience at educational institutions in other countries.

This workshop is all about intercultural communication and the key to successful research work with colleagues from all over the world. It is a great opportunity for international PhDs to learn more about the German way of communication and doing research but it is also important for German doctoral candidates who, although doing research in Germany, will have to work with people from all over the world. The workshop is nothing like a 鈥渂oring鈥� presentation but rather a pleasant sharing of experiences and searching for strategies on how to work best in an international environment.

The workshop is led by a intercultural trainer who has spent a lot of time abroad herself and has been running workshops at the International Office for many years. Participants in her workshop can not only improve their intercultural skills, but also learn a lot about themselves.
