Wilhelm Launhardt Prize
Professor Carl Wilhelm Friedrich Launhardt (1832–1918), a civil engineer, civil servant, transportation scientist and national economist, served as the first rector of the Technische Hochschule Hannover from 1880 to 1886. Although Launhardt was an engineer, he dedicated his first scientific work to the development of economic theory. Today he is viewed as the founder of technical and economic transportation science. His research dealt with both practical problems and mathematical economics-related questions. Launhardt distinguished himself through his work to expand the university.
