The building Bornemannsches Haus was the first seat of the higher trade school. It no longer exists, having been destroyed by bombing during the Second World War. The building was located in the centre of Hannover鈥檚 historic old town, opposite the Marktkirche and the town hall at Marktstra脽e 60/61. This is where Grupenstra脽e begins today. It was built there after the war as part of Hannover's new urban planning initiative.

Bornemannsches Haus originally consisted of two buildings. In the 18th century, they were connected by a common exterior fa莽ade from the early classicism era.

When the higher trade school was founded in 1831, the buildings were owned by the industrialist Johann Friedrich Bornemann. Initially, the higher trade school was located on the second floor of the two buildings and taught 123 pupils. From the beginning, the school was short of space. Therefore, additional rooms were rented on the first floor. Following the construction of a new school building on Georgstra脽e in 1837, the higher trade school moved out and the rooms were used for private purposes again.
