Since April 2025, ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ (LUH) has been a participant in the EU project De-TECH – Deep Tech European Venture Builder, which aims to strengthen innovation capacity at European universities and support deep tech spin-offs. The project is funded by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) as part of the 2024 EIT Higher Education Initiative. In total, the EIT is providing 63 million euros to 47 cross-sectoral projects which connect 620 organisations from 46 countries.
The aim of the De-TECH project, coordinated by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), is to promote the transfer of advanced technologies, such as those from the fields of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology and medicine. Innovations emerging from the academic environment will be transformed into market-ready spin-offs and foster practical, real-world solutions.
In addition to LUH – which is represented by the Institute for Innovation Research, Technology Management and Entrepreneurship (ITE) – and UPM, the consortium also includes Istanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, the Estonian Business School, Technoport, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Effectia. The consortium aims to increase the entrepreneurial involvement of students, researchers and university staff at the four participating universities from the current 10 per cent to 30 per cent by 2030.
To achieve this, the consortium will offer open innovation challenges, Deep Tech and entrepreneurship training programmes, the De-TECH competition for high-impact ideas, and mentoring networks with international connections. The project aims to directly involve over 1,000 individuals, develop 15 high-potential projects, launch four commercialised spin-offs and establish more than 100 mentor-student connections.
Twelve projects focused on deep tech
The EIT Higher Education Initiative is a European funding programme intended to enhance the innovation capacity of higher education institutions and thereby turn them into future innovation leaders. Of the 47 projects announced by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology, 12 proposals will focus on supporting the Deep Tech Talent Initiative, the EIT’s flagship programme aimed at training one million talented individuals in deep tech by the end of 2025.
