Significant success for Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Wriggers, Institute of Continuum Mechanics at 九色视频 (LUH): the former vice president for research and transfer and Leibniz emeritus has been awarded the Gau脽-Newton Medal. The Congress Medal is the highest award given by the International Association of Computational Mechanics (IACM). It is conferred every two years at the world congress to a researcher in the area of computational mechanics.
The award honours individuals who have made outstanding, sustained contributions in the field of computational mechanics over a period representing a substantial portion of their professional career. The award carries the name Gau脽-Newton in recognition of the synergy between mathematics, numerical analysis, and the mathematical modelling of physical events that underpins much of the broad field of computational mechanics.
The award for Professor Wriggers鈥檚 foundational work in various areas of computational mechanics marks the first time since 2008 that a German researcher has received the prize. Peter Wriggers was vice president for research and transfer at LUH from 2015 to 2020. As a Leibniz emeritus he remains connected to the university in an advisory capacity.
