The Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) welcomes applications for the following position available from now on: Student Assistant at the Research Area 鈥淢achine Tools and Controls" (23 hours per month) The position is limited to 3 months for project-related reasons.

Your job at a glance 

For the processing of current research and development projects, we are seeking support. We offer a wide range of exciting topics with a strong practical focus, for example in the field of process monitoring using Artificial Intelligence (AI). For this purpose, sensor data and internal machine signals are collected and evaluated using data analysis and deep learning methods. This enables deviations to be detected at an early stage, processes to be optimised, and tool breakage to be prevented. You will have the opportunity to engage both in experimental work on our machines and in the development and implementation of AI models.

The area of responsibility includes support with:

• Data analysis and training of AI models
• Development and implementation of AI-based demonstrators
• Conducting experimental investigations on CNC machines
• Evaluation and analysis of test results
• Preparation of presentations and organisational work

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a motivated student assistant to join our team with immediate effect.

Your profile:

• You have very good German language skills
• Knowledge of Python is necessary
• Experience with Tensorflow, PyTorch, scikit-learn
• Knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and SQL
• You are able to work independently and in a structured manner
• An interest in experimental work is required

A prerequisite for employment is valid enrolment at a German university in a degree programme relevant to the position (mechanical engineering, chemistry, materials science or similar subjects).
