The Institute of Food Chemistry (LCI, ) focuses on understanding the biosynthesis of natural products and their mechanisms of action in collaboration with international and national partners. Our efforts center on structural biology (cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography), which allows us to understand biochemical reactions and processes at the molecular level.
The Institute of Food Chemistry welcomes applications for the following position starting February 1st, 2026: Research Staff in the field of Structural Biology (salary scale 14 TV-L, 100 %)
This is a permanent position.
Your role
- Management of the new cryo-EM facility
- Independent planning and execution of exciting and ambitious research projects
- Supervision of students (BSc and MSc theses) and doctoral candidates
- Participation in teaching (10 LVS) and administrative tasks
- Writing of publications and research proposals
Whom are we looking for?
We are seeking a scientist with a strong interest in structural biology, particularly cryo-EM, for this position. ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ will complete the installation of a fully equipped 200 kV cryo-EM before the end of the year, enabling both SPA and tomographic experiments. The research landscape in Hannover and LCI's collaborations offer excellent opportunities to realize ambitious projects.
A completed doctorate in structural biology is required for this position.
In addition, we are looking for a candidate with the following:
- Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in biochemistry, chemistry, structural biology, or a related research field
- Relevant experience in cryo-EM and the structural elucidation of proteins and protein complexes
- Experience with protein purification and transmembrane proteins from various sources including tissue is desirable
