The Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) welcomes applications the following position starting at the earliest possible date: Student Assistant on the subject of "Additive-subtractive process chain to increase the performance of tools" (23 hours per month)

The position is limited to 3 months for project-related reasons.

Your job at a glance

In the Combined Manufacturing project, we are investigating the influences of the PBF-LB (additive), milling and deep rolling manufacturing processes on edge zone properties such as hardness, microstructure, residual stress state and roughness. We use the knowledge gained to optimise manufacturing processes and optimally combine the advantages of the individual processes. In this way, we use the adjustment of locally defined edge zone properties by the respective processes to produce more efficient forging and die-casting tools from H13 steels.

The area of responsibility includes support with the:

• CNC machining of additively manufactured components
• Characterisation of surface properties
• Implementation of the response surface method to analyse the cause-effect relationships

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a motivated student assistant to join our team with immediate effect.

Your profile:

• Independent and structured work is a matter of course to you
• You have an interest in CNC machines
• Experience in working with Matlab and Python is advantageous

A prerequisite for employment is valid enrolment at a German university in a degree programme relevant to the position (mechanical engineering, chemistry, materials science or similar subjects).
